Once upon a time....spam was something we found in the grocery store in a blue can with an unique lid for opening this item for consumption. Today, spam is where some of our emails are deposited -- kind of like the socks in the dryer that go in as mates and come out singles!
My first recollection of consuming Spam (which I considered a special treat and loved it!) was shortly after we moved lock, stock and barrel to the Mojave desert. My paternal grandfather bought a ranch and my father was employed to begin developing this new venture. Our first "home" in this wide open space was a square wooden shack -- I have no idea where it came from or what its purpose was. Come to think of it, I have no idea where we put the "stock and barrel"!!! There was just room for a lock!!! As a 5 1/2 year old, it certainly didn't matter to me where I lived as long as Mama and Daddy were there. Well, and I think I was happy to have my 2 year brother there too! :) This shack was one room and had to be very, very small. Daddy built a shelf with sides about half way up one wall and that is where I slept! I remember one meal, cooked on a camp stove outside with the beautiful, brilliant sunset, which consisted of my favorite -- fried Spam!
